Given by Philip Yorke III (1905-1978) along with the estate, house and contents to the National Trust in 1973.
Marks and inscriptions
On the front of the tin: STAG / BRAND / [symbol of stag's head in a shield] / JOINTING / PASTE At right angles to the above (1): 'A' RED / 400g (14oz) On the sides: [logo] ICI / Apply by brush. Surfaces must be absolutely clean. / Use methylated spirit for cleaning off when re-making. / Stag joints, for thinning Paste if necessary, / and for cleaning brushes. / 'A' Grade (thin) is for normal use on flanges and / screwed joints. / 'B' Grade (thick) is for surfaces made uneven by / corrosion or heavy tool marks, etc. For very rough / faces use wick, hemp or a Taylor's ring in / conjunction with 'B' paste. / Resistant to oil, petrol, water, steam, gas and / some acids; high electrical insulation; reduces / battery-terminal air corrosion. / Non-setting.
