Summary
Guage. A guage for cutting wool to the length required for rug-making. It is a rectangular piece of wood with a grooved side. There is a logo and instructions on the front. The logo is of a turkey inside a circle saying TURKEY RFG.
Provenance
Given by Philip Yorke III (1905-1978) along with the estate, house and contents to the National Trust in 1973.
Marks and inscriptions
On the front.: TURKEY RUG WOOL PATONS AND BALDWINS EXCLUSIVE MAKE / To prepare the wool for working, wrap it with an even tension / round the guage and divide along the groove with a knife or scissors.
