This donkey carriage is an example of an earlier carriage being reused. The undercarriage is from a late 19th century carriage such as a dog cart. A rather crude box has been attached during the early 20th century. A surviving photograph from the Erddig Estate shows a pair of donkey's put to this carriage.
Summary
Cart. A Donkey Cart constructed during the early 20th century, the undercarriage is probably from an earlier carriage. Donkey Cart (four wheels) for a single or pair of donkeys. The wheels and elliptic sprung undercarriage from an older carriage have been adapted and mounted with a fairly crude box-shaped body. A metal plate on the side of body is inscribed 'Simon Yorke Esq Erddig Hall WREXHAM’. The body is varnished, the undercarriage is painted red with black lining.

This donkey carriage is an example of an earlier carriage being reused. The undercarriage is from a late 19th century carriage such as a dog cart. A rather crude box has been attached during the early 20th century. A surviving photograph from the Erddig Estate shows a pair of donkey's put to this carriage.
Provenance
Given by Philip Yorke III (1905-1978) along with the estate, house and contents to the National Trust in 1973.
