Summary
Mortar board. A Cambridge mortar board dated 1st half 20th century. Fabric of black wool raised nap. Trimmed with a black silk tassel; and black grosgrain edging. Lined with black cotton satin weave. Label on tape 'P.Yorke'; and Manufacturer 'Tress and Co. London/ made expressly for/ James Neale Ltd./71 and 72 Trumpington St.,/Cambridge'. Partly top stitched. Hand and machine sewn, stiffened with card.
Provenance
Given by Phillip Yorke III (1905-1978) along with the estate, house and contents to the National Trust in 1973.
