Summary
Mantilla. A black needlerun lace mantilla from Spain dated 1st quarter of 20th century. Fabric of black cotton machine lace embroidered in black silk in darning stitch. Design of flowers and leaves. Trimmed with a flounce in the same fabric. Handsewn, flounce on 5 sides of narrow panel, curved on one side, straight panel completes 5th side.
Provenance
Given by Phillip Yorke III (1905-1978) along with the estate, house and contents to the National Trust in 1973.
