Summary
Greatcoat. A blue greatcoat, dated first half of 20th century, in fabric of blue wool with a raised nap. It is trimmed with a metal chain coathanger; eighteen brass buttons; two flapped pockets at the waist; one pocket slanting; one inside breast pocket; and top stitching. It is lined with a grey/white wool mixture, twill weave; black cotton satin weave; and undyed cotton twill weave. It has a label marked 'Tailors and Costumiers/ Samuel Daw and Co./ 12 and 13 High Street,/ Barnstable'. Hand and machine sewn.
Provenance
Given by Philip Yorke III (1905-1978) along with the estate, house and contents to the National Trust in 1973.
