Summary
Baby's gown. A baby's long embroidered gown dated 1840 (circa). The fabric is of white cotton, plain weave with embroidery of 'Ayrshire' work, white cotton, satin, whipping stem and button hole with pulled work and needle lace fillings. Design on bodice and full length front panel graduated panels are surrounded by flowers. Trimmed with scalloped edging to skirt on sleeves and front panel; Valanciennes bobbin lace edging; cotton tapes. Laundry mark. Hand sewn.

Given by Phillip Yorke III (1905-1978) along with the estate, house and contents to the National Trust in 1973.
