Chess set. A carved, rectangular wooden box containing an ivory chess set comprising 16 red and 16 white pieces. A label on the base reads 'The Staunton Chess-Men ... Jaques London', with a handwritten inscription reading 'S.Yorke, A birthday present from Victoria, April 6th 1857'.

Given by Philip Yorke III (1905-1978) along with the estate, house and contents to the National Trust in 1973.
