Caption
This ‘pastime puzzle’ was clearly enjoyed by both Simon and Philip Yorke. Given to them by their mother in 1911, it was still being played with in 1913.
Summary
Puzzle. A paper covered cardboard box containing 'Pastime Puzzle. No.150', manufactured by Parker Brothers Inc., Salem, Massachusetts. The puzzle is of 'Sailor Jack Returns' with a label inscribed '175 pieces S.Y and P.Y. 1913'. Inscribed on the base is 'Simon and Phil.Yorke from their Mother, Feb.1911'.
Provenance
Given by Phillip Yorke III (1905-1978) along with the estate, house and contents to the National Trust in 1973.
