Summary
Phonograph. An Edison Standard Phonograph by Thomas A. Edison of Orange, New Jersey, comprising a rectangular oak case with a winding handle at one end. The playing apparatus is on top with a prominent aluminium horn at forty-five degrees. The set also includes a plain black rectangular box containing fourteen cylindrical vinyl records in proprietary cardboard tubes. This phonograph dates from between 1906 and 1910 and is a combination machine adapted to play both 2 and 4 minute cylinders.
Provenance
Given by Philip Yorke III (1905-1978) along with the estate, house and contents to the National Trust in 1973.
