Summary
A rosewood-framed sofa, English, circa 1840. The back double-ended, and covered in buttoned crimson repp. The arm supports scrolling and carved with foliage. The front seat rails with a central carved spray and moulded lower edge. Raised on a pair of foliate scroll-carved front legs, and outswept square-section rear legs, fitted with lacquered brass castors.
Provenance
Listed in the Saloon in an inventory taken at Erddig in 1846. Given by Philip Yorke III (1905-1978) along with the estate, house and contents to the National Trust in 1973.
