Summary
A three-fold screen, English, late 19th century, one of a pair. The other of four folds and displayed in the Dining Room, where it appears in a photograph of 1908. The fabric designed by George Heywood Sumner (1853 - 1940) and woven by Alexander Morton & Co., a company founded in Ayrshire in 1870. This screen of three folds made from timber rails covered in cotton of stylized pink and green foliage. With metal hinges.
Provenance
The pair to this screen photographed in the Dining Room at Erddig in 1908. Thence by descent and given by Philip Yorke III (1905-1978) along with the estate, house and contents to the National Trust in 1973.
