Summary
A mahogany-framed cheval glass or cheval mirror, English, circa 1840. The mirror plate in a slightly angled frame veneered in flame mahogany. The stand with a pair of broadening supports topped with circular finials fitted with metal pivots and screw adjustors stamped 'COPE & AUSTIN, PATENT'. On divergent scrolling legs joined by a ring-turned stretcher centred by a square-section knop carved with circular bosses. Fitted with brass castors. -- Cope & Austin was a foundry in Birmingham, operating from 1760.

Given by Philip Yorke III (1905-1978) along with the estate, house and contents to the National Trust in 1973.
