Summary
A carved oak and pollard oak lectern, Welsh, made in 1858 by the carver John Davies in the Flemish, 15th century style. The book-rest formed as an eagle with folded wings, and raised on a column turned with multiple knops and rings and a spreading circular and moulded base with three feet, each carved as a lion statant on a shallow plinth.
Provenance
Given by Philip Yorke III (1905-1978) along with the estate, house and contents to the National Trust in 1973.
