Summary
The second of a nest of four lacquered softwood occasional tables, or quartetto tables, Chinese Export, 19th century, possibly the set of quartetto tables supplied to Erddig by J.Garding (fl. c. 1815-20), cabinet-maker, address unknown. This the second largest table, and with a rectangular top decorated with Chinoiserie scenes of figures in landscapes. Raised to each end on a lyre-shaped pierced support, on two divergent feet and joined by a curved flattened rectangular-section stretcher. With gilt highlighting. Some of the tables with significant losses or rubbing to decoration.
Provenance
Given by Philip Yorke III (1905-1978) along with the estate, house and contents to the National Trust in 1973.
