Summary
A 'confidante' seat, one of four forming a confidante sofa, English, circa 1830, in the manner of Gillow & Co. Having a narrow, broadening back and a wide seat, upholstered in crimson velvet and corded repp. With giltwood seat rails and flower and leaf-carved scrolling feet, with lacquered brass and white ceramic castors. The latter stamped 'COPE & COLLINSON'.
Provenance
Given by Philip Yorke III (1905-1978) along with the estate, house and contents to the National Trust in 1973.
