Summary
A giltwood pedestal occasional table, English, circa 1840-60, one of a pair. Carved in the round. The top of polished fossilierous stone, above friezes carved to their bottom edge with a rocaille shell between 'C' scrolls. Raised on a knopped and foliated scroll-carved column, on four moulded and downswept supports carved to the knee with a flowerhead amidst leaves and with scroll terminals. All around a pendant finial carved with alternating and swirling flutes and reeds. The castors of iron and ceramic.
Provenance
Given by Philip Yorke III (1905-1978) along with the estate, house and contents to the National Trust in 1973.
