Summary
An ebony, turtleshell and brass marquetry display cabinet, French, circa 1870. The upper cabinet of two arch-glazed doors enclosing two shelves, and an interior lined with velvet. The lower cabinet of two panelled doors enclosing shelves. Raised on a cutaway plinth base. Decorated all over with turtleshell veneers, inlaid with brass marquetry, and with ormolu mounts to the angles, corners and plinth. With gilt metal stringing elsewhere.
Provenance
Listed in the inventory taken at Erddig in 1894 in the Saloon, where it stands today. Thence by descent and given by Philip Yorke III (1905-1978) along with the estate, house and contents to the National Trust in 1973.
