Summary
A pier cabinet, or display cabinet, French, circa 1870, one of a pair. Fitted with an arch-glazed door enclosing a concave-fronted shelf, and an interior lined with velvet. The front upper frieze, door and flanking pilasters veneered with turtleshell inlaid with brass marquetry of foliate scrolls and arabesques. The pilasters with ormolu mounts of stiff leaves; the ends also mounted. Raised on a wavy cutaway bracket plinth with mask mount.
Provenance
Listed in the Saloon in an Inventory taken at Erddig in 1894. Given by Philip Yorke III (1905-1978) along with the estate, house and contents to the National Trust in 1973.
