Summary
Watercolour and chalk on paper, Lieutenant-General Richard England (d.1812) by John Downman RA (Ruabon, North Wales 1750 – Wrexham 1824). Half-length portrait of a plump elderly man turned almost profile to the left, natural grey hair swept forward, wearing scarlet military uniform with gold frogging, gilt buttons and blue facings, his back against a wall to the right, a tower on a distant hill to the left.
Provenance
Given by Philip Yorke III (1905-1978) along with the estate, house and contents to the National Trust in 1973.
