Summary
Decorative fireplace and overmantel: The fireplace is stone with decorative features including carved pilasters flanking the fire opening and carved frieze above. The overmantel is of plaster and includes large painted arms in the centre (quartered arms with Hardwick and another as yet unidentified), flanked by stag supporters in high relief, with real antlers. Above the arms is a coronet, painted gold with gold scrolling below. Around the central design is unpainted strapwork with various gold painted motifs. Below the arms is the inscription, painted in gold, “SANGVINE CORNV CORDE OCVLO PEDE CERVVS ET AVRE NOBILIS AT CLARO PONDERE NOBILIOR”
