Summary
Painted overmantel and plain limestone fire surround. Overmantel depicts Bess of Hardwick’s coat of arms with Cavendish stags supporting and the coronet of the countess above. To the left of the central scheme are the Hardwick arms with blue saltire impaled with Leake, the family of Bess’s Mother. On the right is Cavendish impaled with Keighley, the family of Bess’ daughter-in-law Anne Keighley who married her second son William Cavendish.
