Summary
One of four portraits applied to the decorated wall panelling on the west wall, on the south pier of the window bay. These four portraits appear centrally within the rectangular panels and are prints. This one is a double portrait depicting Marcus Tullius CICERO, Roman statesman and orator (c106-43BC) on the right. The image on the left is unidentifiable. There are 28 portraits in total on the four decorated panels in this room, 16 are prints and 12 are oils on paper or canvas depicting Roman emperors and philosophers or Greek philosophers. The prints are a mixture of etching and engraving, printed in black and having been coloured by hand with watercolour then varnished. Some are on paper, others have canvas supports and all are applied directly to the oak panelling.
