Summary
A trailer fire pump, part of a set of fire-fighting equipment which included a separate fire engine. All made or supplied from the Lincolnshire Ironworks in Stamford, for His Grace the Duke of Devonshire at Hardwick Hall. Martin’s marketed a motor fire engine and its four-wheeled trailer in the mid-1920s to various local authorities. This example seems to date from c.1926 and is complete with tow bar for coupling to a motor vehicle. The stand-alone trailer is a fine piece of early 20th century engineering, consisting of a Dorman engine driving a rotary action pump mounted on the front of the chassis.
