Summary
A beech, elm and alder kitchen chair, English, circa 1850. Having a curved toprail, and a horizontal splat centred by a tablet between a length of ring and reel turning, an elm saddle seat, and ring-turned legs joined by an 'H'-shaped stretcher.
Provenance
By descent until, following the death of Edward William Spencer Cavendish, 10th Duke of Devonshire (1895 - 1950), Hardwick Hall and its contents were accepted by HM Treasury in part payment of death duties and transferred to the National Trust, in 1959.
