Summary
A walnut and oak low dresser, English, made in the 19th century from early 18th century walnut-veneered oak-lined drawers, cockbeading and walnut veneers. The 19th century oak top with rounded corners, above two ros of two short walnut-veneered drawers, with engraved brass escutcheons and 19th century turned wooden handles. Carcase beading between the drawers. The drawers double feather-banded. Raised on four 19th century turned oak balustroid legs. The rear and sides also veneered in walnut.
Provenance
By descent until, following the death of Edward William Spencer Cavendish, 10th Duke of Devonshire (1895 - 1950), Hardwick Hall and its contents were accepted by HM Treasury in part payment of death duties and transferred to the National Trust, in 1959.
