Summary
A pole screen stand, one of a pair of simulated rosewood and parcel-gilt pole screen stands, English, circa 1825, the wooden shaft topped by an acorn finial and supporting a brass banner bar, the base of three downswept supports on a platform base with concave sides, on turned feet. Simulated rosewood and with yellow highlighting to gilt, a lead weight to the underside.
Provenance
By descent until, following the death of Edward William Spencer Cavendish, 10th Duke of Devonshire (1895 - 1950), Hardwick Hall and its contents were accepted by HM Treasury in part payment of death duties and transferred to the National Trust, in 1959.
