Summary
A towel horse, one of a pair of painted pine towel horses, English, circa 1870, topped by a pair of bars, two further bars below, raised on block and turned uprights on blocks and turned supports and peg feet. All-over painted to simulate wood grain.
Provenance
By descent until, following the death of Edward William Spencer Cavendish, 10th Duke of Devonshire (1895 - 1950), Hardwick Hall and its contents were accepted by HM Treasury in part payment of death duties and transferred to the National Trust, in 1959.
