Summary
A female torso carved from a block of wood (lime?), roughly carved with many tool marks on the surfaces, sloping at top. Wooden carved block in the form of a torso, uneven marks all over from the tools, with a sloping top with uneven cutting. Large split runs down front, through right breast; other smaller splits in wood. Inscribed on underside of base ‘GOLDFINGER’. This might suggest that it is a work by the Goldfinger’s daughter Elizabeth (born 1936), who trained and worked as a furniture designer, although Ursula Goldfinger was also a practising artist.
Provenance
Owned by Ernö Goldfinger and Ursula Ruth Blackwell, also known as Mrs Ernö Goldfinger. Purchased by the National Trust in 1994.
