Summary
A coronation chair, one of a pair of George VI limed oak and velvet-upholstered Coronation chairs, circa 1937, with square-section legs with decorative chamfers, the open back and seat upholstered in blue velvet edged with gold braid, the back bearing the cypher of George VI.
Provenance
By descent until, following the death of Edward William Spencer Cavendish, 10th Duke of Devonshire (1895 - 1950), Hardwick Hall and its contents were accepted by HM Treasury in part payment of death duties and transferred to the National Trust, in 1959.
