Summary
An ebonized and parcel-gilt pole screen stand, English, the cross bar with acorn terminals and fitted beneath with a pair of 'S'-scroll ebonized spandrels, raised on a cruciform base with four 'S'-scroll spandrels, decorated to the base with gilt lines, and overall chamfered. Compare 1127429, 1127431 & 1127438.
Provenance
By descent until, following the death of Edward William Spencer Cavendish, 10th Duke of Devonshire (1895 - 1950), Hardwick Hall and its contents were accepted by HM Treasury in part payment of death duties and transferred to the National Trust, in 1959.
