Summary
A bulbous blown glass inkwell, with a silver hinged lid, by John Grinsell & Sons, Birmingham, 1912. The squat body six convex lobes, cut to the underside with a sharp pointed star. The circular lid with a lower collar around the well and a flat top upon outwardly flared sides.
Provenance
Bequeathed to the National Trust by Ernö Goldfinger (1902-1987) and Ursula Ruth Blackwell, Mrs Ernö Goldfinger (d.1991), formally acquired in 1994.
Marks and inscriptions
Hallmarked to the outside rear of the collar.: "J.G & S" within an oval, next to an anchor, a lion and "n" within a heraldic shield with a downpointed point at the bottom. Hallmarked to the inside centre of the lid.: A lion and "n" within a heraldic shield with a downpointed point at the bottom. Beneath hinge on collar.: A five digit code, possibly "15353".
