Summary
Photograph of Marie Brema (1856-1925) by Alfred Ellis (photographer) . She was an English dramatic mezzo-soprano singer in concert, operatic and oratorio work in the last decade of the 19th and the first decade of the 20th centuries. She created several important roles and was the first English singer to appear at the Bayreuth Festspielhaus.
Provenance
Photograph believed to have been owned by, or given to, Ellen Terry (1847 - 1928) or her daughter Edith Craig (1869 - 1947) and came to National Trust in 1939 when Edith Craig transferred Smallhythe Place (inclusing buildings, land and contents) to the Trust.
