Summary
Photograph, Sarah Behenna, Mrs Isaac Penberthy (c.1800-1887) by Robert Faulkner and Co. (fl.1870-1900s) (photographers) London. Sarah Behenna, Sir Henry Irving's aunt (his mother's sister) brought up the young Irving, who lived with her family for most of the first 10 years of his life. She was married to Captain Isaac Penberthy a famous Cornish miner.
Provenance
Photgraph believed to have been owned by, or given to, Ellen Terry (1847 - 1928) or her daughter Edith Craig (1869 - 1947) and came to National Trust in 1939 when Edith Craig transferred Smallhythe Place (inclusing buildings, land and contents) to the Trust.
