Summary
A bright cut silver presentation trowel with an ivory handle, carved with a figure of Sir Henry Irving as 'Hamlet' holding 'Yorick's' skull. The trowel inscribed 'Presented to Henry Irving Esq by the Architect on the occasion of his laying a stone in commemoration of the rebuilding of the Theatre Royal, Bolton. J.F. Elliston proprietor, October 17 1888. Frank Matcham, Architect, London'. (Original presentation box NT/SMA/MISC/137 in store in tallboy NT/SMA/F/104).
