Summary
A silver crucifix suspended from a silver fob circa 1885. The plain silver crucifix centrally set with a five stone ruby cross shaped centre, the chain link fob with oblong plaque decorated with a pannier of flowers and engraved on the back 'Laurence Alma Tadema from Ellen Terry 1887.' Laurence Alma Tadema (1865-1940) daughter of Lawrence Alma Tadema friend of Ellen and Edith and who lived in Wittersham near Smallhythe. Donated to Smallhythe Place by Miss Jean Crego and Thomas Reid Burnet on 30th July 1989.

A silver crucifix suspended from a silver fob circa 1885. The plain silver crucifix centrally set with a five stone ruby cross shaped centre, the chain link fob with oblong plaque decorated with a pannier of flowers and engraved on the back 'Laurence Alma Tadema from Ellen Terry, 1887'. Possibly part of chatelaine NT/SMA/JW/23. Donated by Miss Jean Crego and Thomas Reid Burnet, 30.7.89. Report by John Benjamin Honorary Jewellery Advisor August 2021.
Provenance
Believed to have been owned by or given to Ellen Terry (1847-1928) or her daughter Edith Craig (1869-1947) and came to the National Trust in 1939 when Edith Craig transferred Smallhythe Place (including buildings, land and contents) to the Trust.
