A single paste plaque circa 1825 the oval dark red paste fully enclosed in gilt metal.
Full description
Part of a parure consisting of (59a) necklace, (59b and 59c) pair of drop earrings, (59d) single stone mounted in gilt metal. Possibly worn by Ellen Terry as 'Madame Sans-Gene' in title role. (Contained in jewel box NT/SMA/L/2, together with NT/SMA/JW/54-58 and NT/SMA/JW/60-62). Report by John Benjamin Honorary Jewellery Advisor August 2021.
Provenance
Believed to have been owned by or given to Ellen Terry (1847-1928) or her daughter Edith Craig (1869-1947) and came to the National Trust in 1939 when Edith Craig transferred Smallhythe Place (including buildings, land and contents) to the Trust.
