A costume base metal and gilt wire-work hair ornament circa 1895 with two elongated gilt metal prongs extending from a faceted blue glass eye-shaped finial, and white feather-like extensions. Possibily worn by Ellen Terry in the name part of 'Madame Sans-Gene'.in 1897.Contained in jewel box item 1117872 (NT/SMA/L/2), together with items 1117807 (NT/SMA/JW/54 and 1117809 - 1117815 (NT/SMA/JW/56 - 62). Provenance
Believed to have been owned by or given to Ellen Terry (1847-1928) or her daughter Edith Craig (1869-1947) and came to the National Trust in 1939 when Edith Craig transferred Smallhythe Place (including buildings, land and contents) to the Trust.
