Full description
A Victorian costume gilt metal cloak ornament circa 1880 of broad mesh design with twin cruciform- shaped hook terminals mounted with green glass cabochons and colourless pastes. Several pastes deficient. Worn by Ellen Terry in her role as Cordelia in 'King Lear.' Report by John Benjamin Honorary Jewellery Advisor August 2021.
Provenance
Believed to have been owned by or given to Ellen Terry (1847-1928) or her daughter Edith Craig (1869-1947) and came to the National Trust in 1939 when Edith Craig transferred Smallhythe Place (including buildings, land and contents) to the Trust.
