18 carat gold plain wedding ring bearing hallmarks for Birmingham 1873; maker’s mark HA. Believed to have been given by Charles Kelly to Ellen Terry on their marriage in 1877, four years after it was hallmarked, possibly suggesting it may have been purchased several years before the marriage. Provenance
Believed to have been owned by or given to Ellen Terry (1847-1928) or her daughter Edith Craig (1869-1947) and came to the National Trust in 1939 when Edith Craig transferred Smallhythe Place (including buildings, land and contents) to the Trust.
