Full description
Struck by Messrs. Martel, Joubart and Charlot, to commemorate Churchill's visit in September 1951. On 12 September 1951 The Times reported that “In the afternoon [of Sept. 11] Mr. Churchill visited the National Assembly; he had hoped to attend a debate, but the session, which lasted little more than half an hour, was over by the time he arrived. After being received by M. Herriot, the President of the Assembly at his private residence, Mr Churchill was taken by M. Le Troquer, senior vice-president, into the Chamber, round the lobbies, into the magnificent library, and back through the long connecting gallery into the President’s residence, where a reception was held in his honour. …” The Churchill archive contains a file with “Correspondence and papers on visit to Annecy, France, Venice, Italy, and Paris, to work on War Memoirs as a guest of Time and Life and the New York Times, Aug-Sep 1951”.
