Full description
In November 1945 Churchill made a brief visit to the French and Belgian capitals. In Paris on 12th November he spoke of how it was his hope , “that a new and happier Europe may one day raise its glory from the ruins we now see about us. And in this noble effort the genius, the culture and especially the power of France should play its true and incontestable role”. Churchill was instituted as a Foreign Associate Member of the Institut de France Academie des Sciences Morales et Politiques in a ceremony in the Grand Gallery of the Bibliotheque Mazarine in Paris on 12th November 1945. He received its gold medal (highest award) (CHUR 5/2 A-D) Speech notes (in English and French) for WSC's speech of thanks (12 November, Institut de France, Paris) on becoming a member of the Academy for Political and Moral Science and discussing the warm welcome he has received in France.
