Summary
Silver gilt California Art Club medal of honor, with a full length figure of Minerva, with the reverse plain, by Paval. Formerly part of the Heirloom Collection.
Full description
Designed by Philip Kran Paval (1899-1971), a silversmith and President of the CAC 1953-55. He offered honorary membership to Eisenhower & Churchill. Eisenhower declined but Churchill accepted and wrote “I must tell you of the great pleasure that this gives me and I shall always value the medal and the membership card which you have presented to me” (12 May 1954). Churchill declined twice, however, to lend the Club a painting for exhibition.
