Medal from the Shorthorn Society, awarded to Churchill for his roan shorthorn dairy cow "Gratwicke Beatrice 2nd" which won the £10 first prize at the Kent County Show, 1949. Churchill had purchased Chartwell Farm which adjoined his property in in 1947 (he later purchase two further farms). The farm was managed by his new son-in-law Christopher Soames, and Christopher an d Mary Soames were to raise their family at Chartwell Farm. The prize-winning Shorthorn herd was sold by auction in November 1951; said to be in order to concentrate on Jerseys. A Belted Galloway herd at Chartwell dated back to 1935.
