Marks and inscriptions
Reverse: "The Arms of McGill University. Blazon: Argent Three Martlets Gules, on a Chief Dancette of the second an open book proper garnished or bearing the legend "In Domino Confido" in letters sable between two crowns of the first. University Motto: Grandescunt Aucta Labore". These arms are based on those of James McGill, the founder. Blazon: Gules, Three Martlets Argent. Motto: In Domino Confido". Letter accompanying shield: "With the Compliments of the Principal and Vice Chancellor, McGill University, Montreal, Canada" (in print). "and warmest Christmas Greetings" in hand.
