Full description
Is a British political dining society founded in 1911 by Winston Churchill and F E Smith (later Birkenhead). Meets fortnightly at ‘8.15 punctually’ in the Pinafore Room of the Savoy Hotel while Parliament in session for the purposes of meeting political friends and foes away from the restrictions and prying eyes of Parliament. Neither MP invited to join ‘The Club’, a venerable political dining club, as both considered too controversial, therefore established their own ‘Other Club’ Twelve rules were written for the club, Churchill suggesting the last: ‘Nothing in the rules or intercourse of the club shall interfere with the rancour or asperity of party politics’ Motto of the Church of Scotland ‘Nec Tamen Consumebatur’ meaning ‘Yet it was not consumed’, an illusion to The Burning Bush.
