Full description
Veronica and Sir Fitzroy Maclean. Married 1946 Veronica had a chance meeting with Sir Winston at Inverness train station at the start of the war when she was volunteering as a VAD nurse and driving ambulances close to the Maginot line. This resulted in him giving her a signed note requesting that she be given “every assistance” whilst on her mission. The friendship developed from there… Photos at her home of her and WSC playing Bezique at Chartwell (she won) Churchill was “hugely huggable”!! In his early thirties, Fitzroy parachuted into enemy occupied Yugoslavia, where he was WSC’s personal envoy at the head of a military mission to Tito. Drum musical box given to WSC as 80th birthday present Bright and Sons, Scarborough - 1857 store opened, taken over by H.L. Brown in 1953, year later, musical box given to WSC
