Summary
Decorative plaster ceiling, designed by Robert Adam and made by Joseph Rose. Referred to as the 'Mosaic Ceiling', it has recurring neoclassical motifs which could be extended in any direction without limit, as in the antique Roman mosaic pavements that Adam had seen in Rome and Ravenna. The geometric design consists of octagons, rectangles and circles. The ceiling is painted white. The frieze on the cornice is Doric in style and shows triglyphs alternating with three different styles of metope.
