Summary

A chess piece from Murshidabad, Bengal. It is the king and in the shape of an elephant a driver and a covered howdah containing two people. The base is stained red. 'Sixteen carved ivory chessmen - Murshidabad, Bengal' (Christie's entry)

Provenance

Curzon Collection acquired by gift as part of the transfer of Kedleston Hall to The National Trust in 1986.
