Summary
A rosewood lady's writing desk with ivory inlay, Mysore, early 20th century. The table has four legs, which are connected in the centre with a finial. The ivory has been ornamented with black designs, which is particular to Mysore. 'A rosewood ivory-inlaid writing-desk - Mysore' (Christie's entry). The Indian Exhibition at Delhi in 1902-1903 catalogue mentions and illustrates this object and described it as a lady's writing table on sale for Rs 458 from the Mysore Museum.
Provenance
Purchased in 1986 by the National Heritage Memorial Fund from Francis Curzon, 3rd Viscount Scarsdale (1924-2000). Gifted to the National Trust in 1987 by the National Heritage Memorial Fund.
